Ethan Douglas Mutschler, age 17 of Wayland, Michigan unexpectedly went to be with his Lord on July 12, 2019 as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born October 19, 2001 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Angela Mutschler and Robert Hood. Ethan was affectionately known by many as “E”, “Much”, “Beefcake”, Big Red” and at 6’5 the “Gentle Giant.” He attended Wayland Union Schools and would have been a senior this year. Ethan was a three-year starter for the Wildcat varsity football team and a member of the varsity basketball team. It was clear early on that Ethan had a passion for sports and played travel ball for several years and countless Gus Macker tournaments. Ethan had a contagious smile that could light up any room. His huge heart and fun- loving personality made everyone around him love him even more. He was an amazing son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend. He will be truly missed by all.
Ethan is survived by his mother, Angela Mutschler; father, Robert (Jamie) Hood; sister, Jenae; and brothers Brendan and Owen. He also leaves his maternal grandparents, Douglas and Judy Mutschler of Wayland; paternal grandparents, Lea and Masa Tanaka of Battle Creek and Lenis and Jan Hood of Bark River; Uncle David (Laci) Mutschler; Aunt Trisha Mutschler-Crowley; Uncle Kevin (Andrea) Hood; Aunt Mandy Hood; many cousins; and life-long best friend, Charlie Toman.
Visitation for Ethan will be held from 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019 at Wayland Union Fine Arts Center, 850 E. Superior St., Wayland, MI 49348. A Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Avenue SE, Caledonia, MI 49316.
