Robert Walter York, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in Hastings, Michigan on Sunday, March 17, 2019. Robert succumbed to a long-time illness in the quiet night, surrounded by loved ones against a backdrop of gently falling snow.

Robert lived an accomplished life serving his country and community in many ways, including serving in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, acting as chairman of the Dorr 4th of July Parade for many years, and becoming a proud life-time member and Post Commander of the Otsego VFW Post 3030. Robert was a skilled carpenter and lover of the simple life. Fishing, camping, warm beer, and strolling the flea markets are what Robert enjoyed the most. While Robert was proud to be a Korean War Veteran and community leader, nothing made him more proud than the family that he loved. Robert’s loyalty to his children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and siblings was unparalleled and will never, ever be forgotten. Roberts passing leaves an unmistakable void in a family that adored him.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara; daughter, Robyn; son, Mark; and son-in-law, David Beem. He is survived by his wife, Irene Stevenson; daughter, Fawn (Chuck) Kimmel; son, Thomas York;  grandkids Ryan (Tiffany) Kimmel, Katie (Eric) DeWinter, Abbie Kimmel, Haleigh York, Ethan York and Nolan York, Zia (Erica) Shook and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 1084 76th St. SW, Byron Center, MI. Relatives and friends may meet Robert's family from 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Home, 4330 18th St., Dorr, MI, as well as one hour prior to the service.
