Obituary

Wilma passed away peacefully at Georgetown and Cambridge Manor on Monday, March 9, 2020 while surrounded by her loving family and caring staff.

Wilma was born in Burnips, Michigan on March 26, 1926 to Anthony and Friedericka (nee Strickfaden) Berens. She was known for her quilt-making and embroidery talents as well as her expert cooking skills. She loved birdwatching and spending time with family. Wilma was also a devoted member of the Burnips United Methodist Church and a steadfast follower of Christ. For many years, Wilma worked at DeJongh’s Store in Burnips and later at Heyboer Transformers in Overisel. She was also a longtime treasurer of the Burnips United Methodist Church.

Wilma is reunited in Heaven with her husband, Arden “Speed” and her son, Roger Arden Smith.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers Melvin, Earl, Clarence, Art, Vern and her sisters Esther and Leona.

Wilma is survived by her sisters Laurene, Una, Arlene, and Treasure; her brother, Lorne; and sisters-in-law Annabelle Harnish (nee Smith) and Colleen Smith. Missing her dearly are her daughters Kay Klamer, Karen (Gregg) Gerkin, and Nancy (Richard) Hayes; her grandchildren Shawn, Shannon, Sarah, Aaron, Nathaniel, Sonya, and Eric; great-grandsons Jonathon, John, Gabriel, Noel, and Arden Roger; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Burnips United Methodist Church or Cambridge Manor of Grandville. Out of concern for the well-being of our family and friends, services have been postponed and will be announced at a future date.
